Since its establishment, the Adopt a Teddy Bear Foundation has been looking for the right place to create a base where people with disabilities can work. The building of the non-operating Vörösmarty cinema proved to be an ideal location, so we started the implementation of the cultural center here. A basic requirement was that the institution be renovated in a barrier-free design.
The smaller cinema hall continues to operate in its original function without major renovation, while the larger hall has been converted into a multifunctional event space - suitable for hosting disabled performers, small orchestras and theatre productions, and can still be used for screenings.
The long forecourt between Baross Street and Üllői Street has been given several functions. The aim was to create a café, bakery, consumer area, bar and a small shop. Due to the structure of the building, this long “corridor” is divided by transverse beams: arched ceilings of different widths and heights are supported on the beams. The decades-long past of the building and cinema is indicated by the preserved walls and ceilings in their existing state, which became visible after the removal of the false ceiling.
The beams that divide the long space are the boundaries of the different functions, where each section, according to its use, was tuned in a specific, slightly different way. The end result was a harmonious flow of space that brings together all functions.
