How can we grasp something that we haven't experienced. We don't want to experience it, and we can't even imagine what it could have meant. We are dragged out of bed at night, away from our family, put on a train, and we find ourselves in a sheepfold in the wilderness. We don't understand anything and are harassed by senseless hostile people at every moment.

We can try to slavishly encapsulate this in a building and an exhibition, but perhaps we can do more. As architects, we can create situations, create spaces and relationships that can help us to understand events more deeply and, in support of the exhibition, provide a clue as to what we should never forget. What are the events and the consequences of which we must face from our past and do everything we can to deal with our things in a more intelligent, more responsible and, above all, more humane way in our present and future, in a narrower and broader sense.
